I have a gel fuel fireplace and i love the look of it. however, the fuel is very expensive. thus, i am attempting to find a "recipe" so that i can make my own. i know alcohol and water are two main ingredients.

• Like the info on making your own with alcohol and wax; .have just seen today on e-bay some one selling the "gel fuel recipe. .wondering if anyone tried grain alcohol (or any other drinking alcohol of very high proof) instead of the isopropal types?

• I just added enough to the alcohol until it turned into a gel. the second time i reacted pure i have ethyl cellulose and i want to make gel fuel how do i go about it? anybody? replace the water in a jello recipe with vodka?

Gel fuel itself is a cleaner burning fuel than traditional wood and gas stoves. gelled alcohol fuel burns clear, smoke-free and a can last anywhere from 2.5 to 3 hours. and for added peace of mind, gel fireplaces are free of the dangers of harmful combustion of toxic products. i have the recipe for gel fuel.
